This week the subject is blogging. Charlotte, our hostess this month says: “I’m always curious to find out why a blogger blogs. Here are the questions:”

When did you begin your first blog and what inspired you to do so? I started my first blog at the end of December 2005.  I had just gotten my first camera and wanted a place to put up my pictures (I had yet to discover Flickr) and journal a little bit.

Do you have more than one blog? Why? How are they different?  I have 2 blogs, my regular blog here and my photoblog.  I messed up the template on the photoblog and haven’t had the time to fix it yet.  I’m thinking of moving the photoblog off of Word Press, but haven’t decided where to put it just yet.

How would you characterize your blog?
Creative
Political
Informational
Community-oriented
Or something else?

Perhaps Creatinformational?  I like to write about things that interest me, thought that I have and questions that I ponder.  I also use it as a space to share my photography.

To paraphrase Oprah, what is “one thing you know for sure” about blogging? Google is omnipotent.  Google sees all, Google knows all.  If you write about it, Google will find it.  If Google finds it, you are almost guaranteed that someone somewhere is going to Google it and find your site.

Is it important to you to get feedback in terms of comments or pings? Why or why not?  No, not really.  I started this blog for me.  It was more of a personal journal at the beginning.  Then I realized that people were reading it, hundreds of people each day.  (I seem to have lots of regular lurkers!)  I realized that I’m not as anonymous as I’d like to think I am.  I now have certain topics that I won’t write about for the sake of my privacy and the privacy of those in my life.

What 3 blogs would you recommend to our readers and why?
(They don’t have to be blogs you read everyday and CAC is disqualified because everyone would, of course, put it on their list!)
Wave of Modulation-  Though not updated all of the time, you’ll find the content to be so moving.  Reading her entries is akin to reading an excellent novel.  Her photos will blow you away!

Janet’s Fond of the Beach- She’s funny, witty and her blog is home to the fabulous What is it Wednesday and the Friday Fill-in.

Photojojo isn’t exactly a blog per se, but I love it anyhow.  It really gets the creative juices flowing!

I’ve met (both literally and figuratively) some wonderful people via blogging.  Just last night I finally met someone who I “met” through someone else that I met through blogging—and neither one of them were bloggers.  Did you catch all that?  ;-)   M. has finally proven my theory wrong that men and women can’t be just friends. You’re a good guy- even if you are a conservative Republican! ;-)
Thanks for the great questions Charlotte!

I think that Google is a little too good at what it does. It has found my last name and street address, luckily there are thousand of other Diana’s with the same last name. But by using the right keywords you can get it down to only three hits and all of them me. :-(
I was thinking about using a HTML Meta tag to exclude Googlebots ( META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”INDEX,NOFOLLOW” ), the robots would still scan the page but will not index it on a search engine.

Ooh, this is a good one. I’m going to do it.
Very true about the “all-knowing” Google.
I’m glad we have “met” in a cyber sense, and I hope someday we’ll meet in a literal sense.

This is v. thoughtful. I’m sure it was hard to answer in some respects. You’re so right about Google. I posted one of my Dad’s old photos today, a photo of a photo. He always did black and white. Hugs, Julia

Yeah, I love meeting new people who share my interests via the blogosphere. And meeting some who look at things differently too. It’s always good to see all sides of things.
